Adam FourmanMy cousin Adam cast aside his earthly restraints on December 31st, heading off into the vast spiritual unknown to seek out whatever new adventures are in store for him.  His body was found at his cabin by his friend, Jim Hollenbeck, who came up and told me.

After talking with Jim, I called the Sheriff to see what needed to be done.  Since he was already dead, I was looking for the “non-emergency” phone number, but I couldn’t find one, so I called 911.  Turns out they consider a dead body an emergency even if it has been dead for a while, so there were great goings-on to find an available Sheriff (we don’t have many in the county).  I met him on the road about 2 hours later, and we went up to the cabin to see what was what.

Family Tree Blocks - ApartNow that Christmas is over and everyone has received and opened their gifts, I can post the project that I completed and sent to a number of my family members!I got the idea from Family Tree Magazine and it looked like something that would be perfect, especially given that I’m currently working on the family tree.

The Family Tree Puzzle is on 8 2″ blocks.  A total of 12 pictures, each cut into quarters and glued on the sides of the blocks.  When I sent it out, it was jumbled into pieces, my theory being that family members would want to put it together!

I’ve been doing quite a bit of genealogy work recently, gathering up family documents and entering them into my new Family Tree Maker software.  Genealogy and documenting my family tree is something I’ve been working on for years and now I finally feel like I’m getting a handle on it.
In doing some research on-line yesterday, I came across this poem I’d like to share.  Fit’s me to a tee!

Yesterday we went to the Oregon Country Fair.  If you haven’t ever heard of it, it’s an amazing collection of people and events.  I can only describe it as “21st century hippies meet the Renaissance Festival”.  People in costumes, children, really cool buildings and art creations, nature, good food, incredible stuff to buy (all handmade and very creative) … just amazing.

Today has been such a diverse day.  Normally people tend to stick to one or two somewhat related things during the course of business.  Today I’ve been all over the map.

First thing this morning I worked on preparing a time line and pack of documentation to deliver to an attorney in time for him to read it before a 9:00 am meeting tomorrow.

In the middle of that I had to stop and check on the fence repairs around the barn.

While doing that, I found out there was a herd of about 30 elk down the hill, so everything stopped while we jumped in the truck with binoculars and camera to go check it out.

Coven in the GardenMy nieces and nephews called me “Andaree” when they couldn’t quite say “Aunt Marie”.  Now grandson Coven is calling me “DammaRee.”  It’s moniker I never expected to have, but the joy when I hear it is so far beyond anything else!  The experience of being a Grandmother is just great - I love it!

Coven came to between Christmas and New Years.  His first “by myself” trip.  Jere went to Portland and picked up Coven along with his daughters who flew in from Florida and I flew him up to Portland (thank goodness for Frequent Flyer Miles!) on New Years Day.

The idea of a silent birth was a concept presented in Dianetics, The Modern Science of Mental Health, based on the premise that words spoken during pain or unconsciousness could have adverse effects on a person later in life. I’ve observed it to be true myself, both from my own personal recall and from applying Dianetics techniques to others. However, there are those who can’t quite wrap their wits around the idea that information IS recorded during pain or unconsciousness.

Dr. Allan J. Hamilton, author of The Scalpel and the Soul, was the subject of an interesting video interview. In the video and in the book he talks about a patient who was not just unconscious but completely brain-dead and still remembered things that happened in the operating room.  He is a brave man to buck the system and publicly say what many doctors and nurses have personally observed but which goes against the “official position” of the medical community.

There really IS a difference between the mind, the body (which includes the brain) and the person him/herself (the soul or spirit).

I was my birthday yesterday. Yes, I’m 29. Again.

The rule in our house is that on your birthday you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do. It’s a great rule. I’ve used it over the years to spend all day in bed or all day watching television, to work on my scrapbooks, to quilt and to go shopping.

This year I took advantage of my special gift to sleep in and skip my chores. Then I felt the pull of my desk…. and decided to go sit there for a while and do something.

Check out the most amazing video clip! It’s a tribute to motherhood that is unsurpassed!

It was a wonderful night last night! Our friend, Amber, who is also my step-daughters BFF and lives in one of the houses here on the ranch, delivered a wonderful baby boy, Aedan! I was on hand, helping, supporting, breathing and even taking pictures when possible.

The delivery was excellent - Amber did a terrific job.
