Why this book?

MoCRA is the Modernization of Cosmetic Regulations Act of 2022. It was the first major revision to the cosmetics portions of the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act since 1938. It improves the safety of cosmetics and grants the FDA additional authority over the cosmetics offered for sale in the United States.

The changes stemming from MoCRA will affect any person or business that makes and/or sells cosmetics. That is cosmetics of any kind, not just “make-up,” but also lotions, creams, lip balm, sugar scrubs, salt scrubs, bath bombs and fizzies, and even soap (if it’s a cosmetic).

Not all parts of MoCRA will affect every cosmetic maker; some parts will only apply based on annual revenue and the type of products made or sold. As of this writing, many of the detailed guidances and regulations are yet to be issued, and the parts of MoCRA will go into effect at different times.

This book, Complying with MoCRA, goes through all the parts of MoCRA and explains how to tell which parts apply to your business, what you need to do now, and what you’ll need to do later (and how to prepare for it).
